Strategy games similar to chess?

I was wondering if anyone here plays any other strategy games with elements similar to chess, but aren't considered "chess variants"?

Yes, I also play Monopoly, Checkers and various Defender games such as Gemcraft.

And I got the top score on one Gemcraft - beat that

I was thinking something similar to Zatikon if you have ever played it. Basically something that is played on a board similar to a chess board, with moves that work in a similar fashion, but with a large variety of pieces and that employs a completely different school of strategies, yet is comparable to chess in complexity. If you haven't heard of it, the link is Chronic Logic - Zatikon if you're interested. I haven't found any games like it yet, but it's an interesting genre, and I'm curious as to whether that genre has been developed more.

Sorry for suggesting a computer game, I didn't think it was such a taboo on this forum , plus Gemcraft is a computer game too. While it is a computer game, it incorporates aspects that cannot be incorporated into a traditional tabletop board game without adding an extremely lengthy codex and rulebook. I think the creators have taken some of the great aspects that came along with online chess and for that matter any online game, namely the interactivity and opportunity for networking and applied some of the abstract aspects of chess strategy into a nice bundle. It would be difficult to go in depth about the mechanics of the game without writing an extremely lengthy post; if you're curious about how it relates to chess, give it a shot. I cannot qualitatively describe the finer aspects of specific tactics and strategy that are applied, I just feel that I use thought processes that are similar to the processes I use in chess when planning my overall strategy and individual moves.
